2U Case Woes

Hep,

I've recently bought a very nice used SuperMicro motherboard, the X7DBI+ for $99 bucks on eBay. Sweet. And to house it a nice, new Chenbro RM21502 case (also from eBay).

Now here's the hassle, turns out my SM MB, is not E-ATX ( 12"x13" ) but "enhanced" E-ATX, which is 13x13.68 inches. The length isn't an issue, but the width is, by .68".

Since 2U is a fixed rack width, and SM sells a 2U case that accommodates this board - I'm wondering how?

Since the board edges into PSU territory, can I side mount a 2U PSU? What is a mini-2U PSU? Use a 1U PSU?

The SM Case for this board is selling for like $500 bucks, so that isn't an option for me.

Essentially the question I've got, and hoping someone can assist, has anyone dealt with this inconvenience satisfactorily?

Found away around this problem?

Greg, perhaps the simplest solution is to look for the power supply used in the SM case.As you said,2u is a standard,Supermicro's solution for this board in their 2u chassis is to use this power supply, from Supermicro(recommended for that board):PWS-702A-1R.Google offers several OEM resellers.Hope this helps.

Ken,

You're a star. I considered this, but was unable to turn up the part number ( pesky links ). Problem though PWS-702A-1R is a 700W 1U power supply Module, not the actual PSU, it appears to have edge connectors that plug into a power distributor that provide the power cables.

To add to the confusion, I get conflicting sizes:

Amazon: 7.2 x 15.2 x 5.7 inches ( this would not fit in a 2U case )
NewEgg: 13.58" x 2.99" x 1.58"
SuperMicro: 14.2"x2"x1.6" ( Converted from mm )

The NewEgg Dimensions just barely work for me, I have 14x3x3.2, but the distributor doesn't fit.

You did lead me to a designation though, 1U Narrow, which looks like it might work - need to do more research.

Anyone else have to deal with this problem? I can't be the first builder to rub up against this - I'm hoping I'm not hosed here.
