You don't really need to worry about running the first router as a bridge. I run cascaded routers as a standard practice. The main problem you'll have is if you need to open ports. In that case I just put the second router's IP address in the first one's DMZ.

If you are ok with the routing features on the RTA, you can just convert the DIR-655 into an Access Point.

If I was going to do that, why would I use the DIR-655 at all?

The RTA-1320 is supposed to be a terrible router, I'd rather it was just modem.
I was assuming you were using the DIR-655 for its wireless.

"Supposed to be" is one thing. What problem are you having with it?

At any rate, I don't have any specific info for you on setting the RTA
into bridge mode.

I wouldn't mess with the RTA. Sorry, but no suggestions for ADSL2+ modems or routers.

Oh dear, the RTA-1320 just started buzzing and looking inside revealed swollen capacitors. I don't think it's worth my while replacing the caps in this crappy unit, so any suggestions on ADSL2+ modems?

I've never seen that brand....most of the DSL ISPs in my area use the Speedstream...taken over by Motorola. They ship in gateway mode, meaning that they're a combo modem/router, I always log in and flip them to bridged mode, having my (or my clients) own router do the PPPoE and obtain the public IP.

The little 2200 series you see on this site

First, it's wise to check with your ISP to make sure the model you'd get is compatible with their system, you want a model that they support.

Actually...from experience, your ISP will usually replace the modem, if you got it from them. Just place a call.
