5g Wireless Bridge and 2,4G AP possible?

Hey,

I want to use the 5G radio as wireless bridge to my primary router and use the 2,4G radio as AP on the same machine for this connection.

(so I am not repeating and cutting 2,4G performance)

I hope you understand what I mean.

Is it possible with an Asus N/AC 66 or 68 ?

...I have that setup running with a N66U and there is no reason it shouldn't work with an AC model.

You will set-up the ASUS in Repeater-Mode and connect the 5Ghz side to the main router.
The 2.4GHz side is then free to serve clients.
Works very well, with the constraint that the range of the 5Ghz side is more limited, so the distance to the main router will matter.

Edit: I am actually not sure if the traffic will be bridged to the 2.4GHz side as well...my clients however see the full 32mbit downstream of the braodband/I-net side of the main router, so I am happy with that result.

Hmm I am not sure if that is what I want.

I want to use the 5G radio as a ptp bridge to my main router.
And then use the 2,4G radio in AP mode to serve my clients.

So I will get full speed on the 2,4G client side and full speed on the 5G bridge.

AFAIU the 5Ghz link is not real PtP...other 5Ghz clients could also connect to the main router.
As there is no 2.4GHz link between ASUS and main router, IMHO the 2.4GHz will remain with full bandwidth to clients, while the 5GHz bandwidth (to other clients on that band) will be cut in half because of the repeater mode used on it.

You can install dd-wrt on it. Set the 5ghz up following the guide for dd-wrt client bridged and then set up the 2.4ghz normally.
