5ghz band distance limitations

New Around Here
I recently got the n56u and was able to set it up properly. The problem I am having is that what seems not that far away to me, I am getting poor (make that unusable 5ghz performance). In a room that is about 25 ' away from the open door in the office where router is located I get a perfectly fine and steady 2.4ghz signal, but the 5 ghz I can't even use my ipad, just locks up. Is it possible that the 5ghz is that much different then the 2.4ghz at such a relatively close distance? It does have to travel through a wall to get to the spot where I most want to use it. I'm not sure if it is just the limitation of the 5ghz or its' just possible I have a defective unit.

Thought I would see if anyone else ran into similar issues.

thanks

Hi,
5GHz band usually has lesser range compared to 2,4GHz signal. Can you relocate the router just for experiment? Could you read signal strength running something like inSSIDer? Tried different channel? Using different channel can often improve signal level. I prefer higher channel like 149 with my router in my house. If I pick lower channel like 46, signal level drops lower.
