68U Wireless Interrupts

I have a 68u running 380_3264 and I have the same problems like I was having with the ac3200 router. I am starting to have wireless disconnects and interruptions and I have to reboot the router on a daily basis to clear any issues. I have all of the devices connected to the 2.4 band. I didn't have any problems after I bought the router and turned it on and started adding devices to it. Slowly I started to enable features like Aiprotection (parental control), Traffic analyzer, Firewall (URL and Keyword filters) and Adaptive QoS (bandwidth monitor). Over time, I started to see issues where I was rebooting the router if I can't download an App from the App Store.

My problem with this router like I had with the 3200 is very simple, I get the STOPPED ( err = 9006) and wireless interruption message on my Mac Mini. What I am doing is very simple, I go into iTunes and download iOS apps. Again, I can surf the internet on my computer but I can't download an iOS app. On my iPad, I can surf the internet but I can't download an iOS app.

I never have any issues surfing the internet or streaming a Youtube video. The issue that I have now and like I did with the 3200 router, the Asus router doesn't play nice with Apple devices or computers. Specifically, I am talking about iPhones and iPods and Mac desktops, basically anything Apple. I know the problem is with the Asus router and I know it is not the channel interference or conflicts with my neighbors wireless. I have ZERO problems with a Linksys router. The Linksys router and Apple devices, just work. There is no glitches or interruptions or interference of any kind. I can download 20 apps if I feel like it and I get ZERO errors. On the Linksys router, I don't change anything or adjust the channels. This router just works out of the box.

I can't pinpoint the issue with Asus router but I know it is the router. When I was using the 3200, I tried Asus stock firmware and Merlin. In fact, I tried multiple stock firmware versions and it was suggested to me that I try Merlin's version 378.56 because it was stable. With the 3200 router, it didn't matter which firmware I used, nothing fixed the issues. I still was getting error messages. I gave up and went back to using the Linksys router. Now I returned to the 68u, thinking that maybe the 68u is a different model with different hardware and I will not have the same problems like I did with the 32oo model.

It is hard for me to believe that I would be facing the same problems with two different Asus routers. I like the Asus routers for its features which is better than Linksys. However, Linksys seems to be more stable than both Asus routers.

Is there a feature that is causing the router to become unstable?

Nope that doesn't resolve the issue. I disabled the explicit and universal beam forming on the 2.4 and 5 bands and there was no change. I disabled Adaptive QoS and all of its features. Still no change. Back when I using 3200, that suggestion was made to me as well, to disable beam forming and it didn't make a difference. It funny and sad, I can surf the internet on the devices that are most affected, Apple devices, as well watch a Youtube video but I can't download an iOS App on ANY iOS device and Apple computer. BTW, this have nothing to do with Apple servers or maybe something with there system is down.

There is something that happens to these Asus routers that affect stability which for most people if you don't use Apple products, in general, like iOS devices or an Apple computer, you will not experience any problems. If you are an Android or Windows user, you may not experience any problems.

I turned off the Asus router and turned on my Linksys router, guess what? Everything is working fine. I am able to download Apps and I don't have the same problems anymore. What does that tell you? It is the Asus router.

Try disabling Beamforming

So, I factory reset the 68u and it is running 380_3264. I did enable AiProtection (Parental Controls) which is the Web and App filter and Time scheduling. I am on my Mac Mini and I am in iTunes 12.4.1.6 and I finished updating the Amazon app which is 88mb. The update ran smoothly and no errors or wireless interruptions.

After I performed a factory reset, I enabled AiProtection and everything was running smooth with no errors or problems. The next day, I enabled URL and Keyword filter and I started to add entries into ONLY the Keyword filter. I added Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, Netflix, etc...and I went back to iTunes and tried to update an App like Candy Crush. That is when I got the STOPPED (err = 9006) error message. I went back to the Keyword filter and started to remove those entries 1 by 1 and I continued to get the same error message regardless of the App or the size of the App until there was no entries. I discovered that having Keywords like Facebook, Youtube, Netflix affects iTunes in some mysterious way that blocks an App from downloading. I am not sure why, but I am not updating the Facebook app.

Right now, I have Traffic Analyzer, AiProtection and URL/Keyword filters enabled. I don't have any entries in the Keyword filter but I did add some entries in the URL filter.

Can someone explain why Keyword filter would affect iTunes?
