AB-Solution: Combined shared whitelist/blacklist contribution Project

@HawkInOz suggested we pool our efforts to have user contributed snbforums-whitelist/blacklist.txt for AB-Solution:

That would be doable if interest is high enough. Reply here for your thoughts.

- Post your whitelist/blacklist (and mark it as such) with some context as to why you have the entries in it.
- Then like the ones you would like to be included, the more likes a list gets the more likely it will be included.

This is a blacklist for Windows telemetry "features" but I was told to repost here. Initially I had more domains listed from various sources but it was overkill and interfered with my other Windows PC regarding the Windows Store and app updates. This is a more basic list and should give no issues for those on the network wanting to use any Microsoft services.

People compiling those Microsoft lists need to take the time to actually analyze what they compile. I see a lot of hosts that are blocked in that list that would be a bad idea, and will cause random issues.

For instance, that lists has some blocks related to generic Facebook and Cloudflare servers. There's even "hotmail.com" on that list - hardly a "telemetry" server... m.hotmail.com is also probably their mobile website - that's not a telemetry site in any way.

I've noticed too. Such a list will need some extra careful time to compile.
Either way, this will be a conservative list if I code this into my script.

When using Android, I am very happy with AdAway, which uses the following "/etc/hosts" (black)lists:

This thread is about the user defined entries in the b/w lists, not he hosts files themselves.
BTW, the listed hosts files are included in hosts file type 3 on AB-Solution, see www.ab-solution.info

I suppose I gave sufficient warning that it's not just for telemetry but for MS services because I haven't had time to research each link individually. But it's noted and I'll be sure to update it and delete non-relevant domains if necessary.

I know. My post was more intended to people building the original lists than those like you reposting them, or people using those lists checking first.

Black and white list is making the difference between users preferences. Sharing these files will bring more headaches than benefits in my opinion. Maybe it's enough to publish in the forum packs of hosts for specific areas. In this case each one can copy that pack in his white/black file.

Here is my blacklist, trying to keep ads off my roku, kik and snapchat away, and porn away from my kids. There could possibly be more sites that need blocked, but these seem to be the big ones.

I can see some merit in setting up custom whitelist sets of "hosts groups" which you could toggle to enable the adds on sites like SNB forums, where you might want to endure the banners to support the sites revenue.... the sites themselves might like to contribute the hosts they use to the list.
Adding a layer of complexity to the whole thing of course..but you could set up up so the add hosts are only enabled if you are visiting your "supported" site.... blocking them if you visit some other site.
Other than that i think whitelist selection is a little too personal for a generic list to be widely accepted.

Well its had a whole bunch of views...so i guess people are interested. Probably they are a little unsure of how to best leverage such a feature. My suggestion was simply born out of the fact that you whitelisted SNB forums ad hosts to support the site...i just expanded on the concept a little.

storage.googleapis.com

because the google prompt for 2 factor authentication was not working, and viewing the logs this google site was getting blocked.

always nice to know if adblockers takes to much makes it such a better experiance for new installers of both ab-solutions and ublockr if it works better out of the box.
