ABsolution, Skynet, DNSCrypt and Pixelserv >= AiProtect

Hello all :)

As the title sort of suggests, I'm sort of seeing AiProtect as an unnecessary resource drain when I have the aforementioned installed and up to date.

Is disabling AiProtect in favour of these programs standard practice, or would I remove a safety net that I'm not considering by doing so?

There’s no real reason to disable AiProtect. While it’s usefullness is up for debate it’s better then having nothing at all.

Thanks for the reply. I seem to have a creep in RAM usage with AiProtect enabled, and it's solid at 89% with it off, so was wondering it was necessary (highest I've seen has been 98%).

I'll pop it back on and see if I can find out why the RAM is creeping up, because as you say, it shouldn't do any harm. All I've done is turn it on and leave it, so it's "Out of the Box" (AiProtect, that is).

AiProtect does forward all your DNS queries to TrendMicro for analysis.

This can be concerning. No idea if DNSCrypt kicks in before or after.
That fact alone doesn't keep me awake at night, but I'd rather it wasn't happening.

Are you able to comment on what features I'd miss by disabling AiProtect and running with only the aforementioned progs? Removing AiProtect and leaving myself vulnerable to certain security issues would be my concern.

Take a few sips of warm chamomile tea if that really keeps you up night.

I plan on installing all of these in my router but had some questions regarding VPN. Will any or all of these installs have any effect in VPN speeds, configuration, and overall performance?

Also, if not very off topic....what size external drive would you recommend for all of these installations? Would an external desktop drive of 4 Tb be sufficient? And finally....based on recent discussions in some threads....what is the verdict on what drive format is the best to go with to best support each of these? Ext2, ext3 or ext4?

Thank you!

Surely you meant GB.

4TB is enough for 1.6 trillion lines of code/entries.

Fully fledged operating system are 10gb with all gui resources included.

No I meant TB as I have not used it for anything else for years. Probably too much space for all of these ( and more in the future) but wasn’t sure....Also I am new at formatting these drives so I wanted your opinions on what would work to ensure optimal performance.

Also, I am gathering from other forums that one must format from the router (via SSH). How do you create different file folders for each of these programs? Or does the router decide where and how much space to allocate in the drive for each of them?

Thanks!

Ideally you want a flash drive instead of hard drive since they have fast access times.

Skynet creates a swap file ~512mb and absolution need ~1-20mb for its hosts file.

A 1gb drive would be more ideal than a 4tb disk.

Good to know-will try to find one. Any ideas about what formatting would work best with all of these programs?

Thanks

I formatted my usb3 to ext2, since that is recommended by @thelonelycoder :)
