AC3200 plus AC66U Connected Lan to Lan

Hey all,

I hope this is in the right section, if not my apologies as i learn the forum a bit better...

Here is my setup, the AC3200 is the main router, that is hooked up to my cable modem, I am using Merlin Build 378.55 on both routers and the AC3200 works flawless as the main router... I have hooked up the 66U router to the AC3200, doing lan to lan hookup

I have turned off all the firewall and DHCP in the 66U... I have a hardrive hooked up to the 66U and I would like to use it with a Inteware/Transmission setup... I have been able to setup this up before using just 1 router and hardrive, but now when I try, I get a port error message on the 66U when trying to check the open port in Transmission...

That doesn't sound like a valid configuration of the 66U. What "mode" is it in? (Administration > Operation Mode)

If it is in "Wireless router mode (Default)" that won't work as it expects the WAN port to be connected to the internet.

Hey Colin,

That probably is the issue, I did try the other modes, but could not get things working.....

I suppose I should ask the question, is there a way to hook up the AC66U as the slave router, that will host Tranmission on a EXT3 USB drive connected to the AC66U's USB port, while using the AC3200 for the internet connection for not only the AC66u, but having the AC3200 be the main router for the rest of the devices in the house?

You still need WAN on the slave connescted to LAN on the master

Here is a picture of the router when downloading a file to the usb Hardrive Hooked up to the AC3200, I find even downloading one file at a time, spikes the cpu's often and if we are using the wifi enough it degrades the fluid-ness of our connections a bit. I planned on getting a full media server that would download with Transmission itself but wanted to make the two routers work together in the meantime, in hopes of reducing the load on the AC3200 so that the older AC66u would take the hit since the hardrive hooked up to the usb with transmission is causing it... And since no one would be hooked up to the AC66u iteslf, that would make for a smoother experience...

Does Adaptive QoS help on the RT-AC3200 (not for the cpu spikes, but for the fluidness of the rest of the network)?

Seems like you really need a NAS here.
