AC66U - Cannot Flash

SnyderTalon

New Around Here
Having a problem flashing my AC66U.

I, a temporary idiot, forgot the login information to the router and was planning on redoing all the settings anyways so I reset it and then I couldn't get into it. Also, this is from my memory of something from months ago so some of the details might be a little off and I cannot explain my thought process. But I can accurately describe what I've been doing today.

I've tried flashing to Asus 380.7743 (most current on their web page), Merlin 380.67, and Shibby Tomato 124, 128, 130, 131, and 132.

They all stop and 99% and state "Failed to recover the system."

I followed the manual: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/wireless/RT-AC66U/E7891_RT_AC66U_Manual.pdf

I tried the Asus rescue instructions: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1000814/

What else can I do?

Thank you

Which version do you have? Is it an rt-ac66u or rt-ac66u B1?

Try the cfe mini web server or the firmware restoration tool.
Also how did you reset it? Did you hold the wps button in while turning the router on and keeping it held till the power led flashes rapidly?

Fix Action ^

I find it frustrating that the manual doesn't have your solution in it, or at least not when I search for either "rest" or "WPS." I wish there was a document in which that action was noted, like a user guide or something, from the manufacturer.

Separate note, I was not able to ping the router any time I booted it up or when I placed it in recovery mode. How would I have gotten to the CFE mini web server? The only time I've ever logged into one is when I converted a T-Mobile router back to an AC68U.

To get to the cfe mini web server, do the same process but use the reset button instead of the wps, then when you point your browser to 192.168.1.1, it should come up.

Ahh...the problem before is that the router was not responsive. Enabling DHCP (on local device) or setting IP to 192.168.1.10/24 would not allow me to ping 192.168.1.1.
