AC66U Media Sharing

peepksp

New Around Here
I have a question about file sharing within my home network using the AC66U.

My set up:

Panasonic internet Plasma TV (living room)
ps3
Western Digital My passport 2tb external hard drive (media source)
Older Samsung LCD (bed room)
Asus AC66U
Macbook Pro w/ mountain lion
Lenovo t61 Thinkpad w/ windows 7

Currently I am moving my ps3 with external HD back and forth from Living Rm to Bed Rm so I can watch or listen to my stored content on the extenal HD. I bought the AC66U to provide a way of sharing my media files at home and for using AiCloud mobile but I am not sure what the best solution is for sharing my media files in both rooms. I have tried hooking up the external HD to the AC66U but my Panasonic TV and ps3 using DNLA had a hard time finding all of the files (may be do to unsupported format) and the user interface of the Panasonic TV is pretty terrible. I prefer the ps3 to stay in my bedroom so I can access netflix since my Panasonic TV in the LR has netflix available wirelessly and doesn't require a ps3 or steaming device.

Is there a more effective way to get all of these components to share the files on my external HD? Does it matter that my HD is not a NAS drive?

And yes, I am a noob.

Thanks for your time!
