AC86 Merlin Open VPN with PIA causing GUI to be unresponsive

I configured Open VPN with PIA as the instructions on the PIA website indicate and the VPN works but as soon as I turn it on the GUI on the AC86 with latest version of Merlin becomes unresponsive. When I click on a tab it takes a minute or two to register the action and then it eventually just times out and can't connect. Is there a setting I need to adjust? Although the router interface is not accessible the VPN still keeps working but I have to reboot it to turn off the VPN and to be able to regain access to the GUI.
