AC86U only for DNS (diversion and skynet)

Currently have AC86U as router and Netgear ORBI for WIFI in AP mode. Want to test some Orbi features in router mode. Is it possible to use the AC86U for DNS lookup (mainly for blocking ads with diversion) and Skynet?

DO I need to put the AC86U in bridge mode connected to ORBI and change orbi DNS to AC86U?

The AC86U only runs its DNS server when in router mode.

I tried to connect the ac86u in router mode directly to the ORBI and setting dns on orbi as ac86u. I can resolve hostnames using ping, but if I try to browse the net I get page can not be displayed
