Adding hardware raid to a 5018A-AR12L

Hardware RAID uses Firmware. Some contend that software RAID is slower.

NEITHER IS A BACKUP. RAID is not a backup we preach.

Let me rephrase. This is the back server but the raid configured for added protection. Might be overkill but I am trying to minimize risk.

Are you saying that software raid is just as reliable? Thia is not what I have beeb told by many.

Lots of kinds of RAID implementations. Most PC motherboards with RAID actually do some or all of it in the "BIOS" firmware.

My always on windows computer in the garage has RAID on the motherboard. I can't say how much of it is firmware or chips, but Windows doesn't do software RAID.

To me, software RAID might mean it's done in the operating system drivers. I suspect that affordable NASes do the same. Not sure.
