ADSL Modems /chips

hastings

New Around Here
AS per suggesteion from the staff I post this:

would like to comment on a issue that none seems to test and that is the ADSL modem chip part of any wifi router. Having gone through several producers it seems that Stability of connection and the design of such thing as the ability to sustain long up times before needing reboot is no longer a concern. Cooling for instance is often poor. Even if I would like to pay premium for a more professorial model there is simply none to out there and worse there are no test to guide me. Some say that a stand alone modem are more stable others that broadcom chip is superior but that is just "polls" from user that might be experiencing line noise etc.

The best wifi router that found in test is still pretty worthless if the modem part is inferior and unstable. With a raising need for stability in many home networks I feel that this is important information and sadly lacking at any testsite. Obviously the ADSL technique is to mature to be of interest

I now looking at the market again.... for another standalone modem .
More and more droppouts with my speedtouch that I rewiewed when my fouth router supplied by my ISP died (INTENO one dead, NETGEAR (3 dead)) die Prices are low, most models old. and I find nothing to guide me on their expected performance. If you have any suggestion that would be help full. I live in sweden close to a DSL station. Preferably a model where i could use DMT (DSL-Modem Tool) or similar to monitotr problems with the connection.

It's not possible for me to perform reliability testing on ADSL routers
or any other products I test. I don't test routers with ADSL-only WAN
ports because I could not perform throughput testing on them since
they could not be connected to a controlled network, i.e. not the
Internet.
