Advice: what is needed to setup a 12 volt wireless lan, no internet access wanted

New Around Here
I want to have a portable wireless lan (batteries) setup that I can stream (and access files) from my laptop to several other laptops, tablets and phones out in the boondocks. No internet or phone access is needed, just back and forth with my laptop.
I assume I need a router with DHCP? Which do you recommend?
As an alternative, could I use "Virtual Router Plus", a free open source software that turns your laptop into a router?
Would the other devices need to do anything wirelessly special?
How could I stream a movie to a phone without being in contact with a cell tower?
Any help would be appreciated!
thanks

Thanks for the suggestion about using a hard disk too. I was hoping not to add another disk (battery and space) so I'm looking for a very portable battery operated (maybe a router) that would use my laptop as the storage device and stream music, maybe a low bit movie to the other devices (laptop, tablet, etc.) Do I need DLNA?
Basically, here in my non-technical terms, is what I need.
1. I turn on my laptop
2. I turn on a device (what device??) that I have setup before
3. Others turn on their computer that they have setup before
4. I tell my laptop to stream some music, probably using VLC which I know how to stream with it
5. Others click on an icon (to hear the music or watch the movie I'm streaming) using client VLC

The part I don't know is what portable device and what features (WiFi, DLNA, Miracast, USB plug, etc) do I need to look for in a 6 to 19 volt portable device.
Thanks

Consider using a mobile WiFi hospot such as a Samsung V100T.

It has a battery that can be charged from its USB port.

The battery is replaceable so it would be possible to carry a spare.

It will handle 10 WiFi clients using its own DHCP server.

It can be configured as a DLNA compliant device.

It has a slot for a microSD card so you could store lots of music and some video depending on the card's storage capacity.

The device will fit in your pocket.

The only thing I can't tell you is if will work as a DLNA compliant device if it does not have a SIM card installed.
