AiMesh problem on 5GHz only

Supermatico

Occasional Visitor
Hello, I have the AiMesh system config in my signature

The problem is on the node only (at the first floor): every now and then the 5GHz disappear from all the devices (TV nor mobile) and those devices discover the 5GHz band from the Master only (at the ground floor, very poor signal), but they connect to the 2.4GHz on the Node
The only way to fix it is to reboot the whole network, and two days later the problem rise again

The TV is binded to the Node, my smartphone not. Also unbind the TV did not fix

Also Optimizing via App did no fix

This behaviour happen with any ASUS firmware and any Merlin firmware, always kept updated and all with the same problem in the last 18 months

What is "funny" are the 2.4 and 5GHz settings: also if I set all the same for both frequencies on the 2.4GHz everything works, on 5GHz not at all

These are the actual 5GHz settings, if I set anything different the problem became very huge

These are the actual firmware

Any suggestion?

P.S.: the oldest WIFI device in my house is four years old

If you have the 5 GHz set to 160 MHz or 20-40-80-160 MHz and DFS channels are enabled you may be getting hit by RADAR which will knock off the 5 GHz. To get a stable 5 GHz set it to 80 MHz Auto channel and disable DFS. Also, set anything in the professional settings back to defaults. I suggest you use just WPA2-Personal as well. Let these settings run for a week or so to see if the 5 GHz is stable.
Note: with the 5 GHz at 80 MHz the range should improve. If you continue to have issues you may want to go back to Asus firmware on the router...

Hi bbunge and thanks for your reply.
The DMZ was already disabled, but the 160MHz was ON. So now I uncheck the 160MHz option and I restored the settings in the Professional section.

What was strange is that the problem is on the first floor only, all the devices at the ground floor connected to the 5GHz they never gave any problem: maybe the node should have hardware issues on 160MHz?

Now I'll have a try and I'll report back soon, tks for your time for now

Have a nice time
