Over the weekend I helped a friend add a SiliconDust network tuner for his PLEX server. The only antenna access location has no access to a wired ethernet port and the SiliconDust tuners don't support wireless. I pulled out an old AC68 from the bin and configured it as a media bridge to provide access to a wired port for the Silicon dust.
Everything worked splendidly at my house when I homed the bridge on my 3.0.0.4 based access points.
I took the setup to his house, reset the router, plugged in my laptop and reconfigured/re-homed the AC68 to his AX88-PRO (3.0.0.6). It connected, my laptop got an IP and I figured I was all free and clear.
Well the SiliconDust device would NOT get an IP. I tried resetting and reconfiguring the AC68 a couple times and everything else I could think of. Finally I re-homed it to a 3.0.0.4 based AX86 wired AP he has and everything worked. Just for giggles I grabbed an old Linksys he had, made it into a wired AP off of his AX88-PRO and re-homed the AC68 bridge to the Linksys. Also all worked as expected. The SiliconDust will NOT get an IP if the AC68 bridge is directly homed on the AX88-PRO.
I saw similar behavior with other devices months ago when I added a wireless link out to his shop as well. Again, the solution was to home the remote link on the 3.0.0.4 based AP.
Looks like 3.0.0.6 still has some fundamental issues and/or I'm missing a setting someplace when it comes to "wireless bridges". I'd LOVE for someone to tell me I'm just missing a setting!
TIA
