Any "Economy" NAS/DAS that supports 2tb internal drives? (Addonics?)
Hi, i searched the forums for "WD20EADS" (western digital's 2tb internal drive, the only 2tb drive out until Segate starts selling their i think) and only got two hits from Tim (thanks Tim!) about the Synology and QNAP devices.
Synology and QNAP seem to be really good brands, problem is perhaps a bit too good as i think the cheapest 4 bay solution was from Synology for $550+ and the are straight up NAS (overkill in my case).
I dont really need media serving or self contained system at the moment (I don’t think), really i am just looking for something that supports 2tb drives and has 4 bays and supports mirroring (RAID 1?). A DAS solution would be just fine (speaking of which is there such thing as "onboard port multipliers?" for computers that dont support port multipliers) with USB and maybe esata, i say that in hopes that a DAS would be cheaper than a NAS.
I came across a post about Addonics and while not the most elegant option it seems to be teh cheapest and certainly most customizable option (I'ma sucker for custom setups) has anyone used them? Any thoughts on bugs, quality etc?.
Any other suggestions for reliable (not necessarily uber performance boxes) boxes would really be appreciated!!
Cheers
