I was using a gigabyte switch, maxtor shared drive and ethernet to connect two iMacs and have central storage, which worked well and was fast.
Today I removed the gigabyte switch and replaced it with a Apple Exteme which has the new dual band. I plugged the Maxtor directly into the back and was working wireless between to iMacs in minutes.
We use our iMacs for Graphic Design and Web Design, we are surprised at how fast the connection is between sharing the maxtor drive.
Alot of our files are big adobe suite files, but there has been no loss in speed in switching over to the Airport extreme.
If anyone is looking for a very fast connection with internet and file sharing from a NAS, I can recommend the Airport Extreme, I can also recommend the Maxtor Shared Storage, very quiet and it's fast.
