ASUS 87U and VZW 551L Usb Modem

New Around Here
Hello--my first post here hoping to find the answer. I have used a Cradlepoint MBR95 for the last few years. The last year with a VZW 4G 551L and prior to that a VZW 3G USB 760--all with no problems. My MBR95 is only 100mhz Ethernet whereas the 87U is 1ghz---10 times faster. I move multi gb video files between NAS and various computers and I'd like a faster network.

Today I downloaded and installed the latest Firmware. My problem is I can not get the 551L to connect to the internet. It is recognized by the 87U as a Novatel 4G (displayed on the Network Map under the USB 2.0) modem correctly, but the green or blue leds never blink.
In the configure window for the modem, it shows --CDMA(2000)--not the Novatel nor 551L.

I have talked to my ISP, Verizon tech support and ASUS. The 2nd conversation today with my ISP told me to return the 87U because it should be a Plug & Play. No info should be needed. He said it was like the 87U does not have the "drivers" for the 551L. The 551L is not on ASUS USB Modem list--the only VZW is the USB 760. I was sure before I ordered it I had read somewhere that the 551L worked with the 87U.

Have others had this problem, and if so---what did you do to get it to work?

I found a few posts here--but nothing specific. If I have to return it, I plan to buy a Pepwave SOHO Surf.
Any thoughts on the SOHO and how does it compare to the 87U from a users standpoint?

Thanks for any info,
Ron
