ASUS AC86U replacement , 2.5 Gb lan .

Maybe a Ubiquiti Dream Router 7, Wi-Fi 7 which looks close to the BE86U.

What you have to know about UDR7 - no USB, WPA, WPS and very limited system modifications. All considered security risk and not supported. If you need any of the above - consumer router is your only option. Otherwise UDR7 is mini Unifi system in one device plus PoE and NVR. It can be used as home AIO router, but it can also be used as home control hub. It supports all Network, Protect, Access, Talk, Connect product line Ubiquiti devices. If you have deep pockets it can run your WAN/LAN, RFID locks, door bells, intercoms, HD cameras, environmental sensors, etc. from a single control screen. The reason it runs under the hood complex Debian-based OS and has 3GB RAM, 16GB NVMe and comes with pre-installed 64GB SD. Don't compare hardware specs, very different devices with different purpose and capabilities.

i have 2 ax11000 pros which also have a 2.5 and 10g port.. i would recommend that or the rt-be88u if you dont care about 6ghz..

Thanks for that. WiFi security specs list WPA-PSK, WPA-Enterprise (WPA/WPA2/WPA3/PPSK) so that seems okay. actually cheaper than the RT-Be86U here in Banania.

Make sure you don't miss the return window in case it doesn't work as advertised. Still broken bwdpi engine since introduction which transitions to straight false advertising already. All popular current ASUS BE-class models affected with perhaps AI monster exception. Your call. Don't limit your choices to single vendor.
I’m about to set up a new RT‑BE92U for a small business. My plan is to run CakeQoS and avoid any of the AiProtection features that rely on the bwdpi engine. The WAN connection there is only 350 Mbps, but I’ll have 2.5 GbE available for backup and database server access.

Get something better for this business and not the cheapest ASUS tri-band router you can find with broken parts of the original firmware and 3rd party firmware supported by single person. The UDR7 with SMB features built-in is much better fit for this application. But you may not like this business much, I don't know...

Or if you insist on ASUS at least get this one:
Their 2.5GbE LAN needs a switch, doesn't need Internet gateway with 2.5GbE ports.

Just wondering

In this thread I have suggested ASUS consumer, GL.iNet, Ubiquiti and ASUS business products. Go back and take a look for yourself. Only two of the products mentioned are made for SMB application. The "Smart Home Master" series product RT-BE92U is not one of them.

Let me know if you start wondering about something else.

I appreciate your concerns, but the RT-BE92U should be good enough for what they are doing. I finished installing it yesterday and everything went well. They have no public facing WiFi and won't need remote access, so SMB features aren’t required in this case. The router is running the latest Merlin firmware and is connected via the 10GbE port to a TRENDnet TEG-S762 6-Port Switch (4 x 2.5G, 2 x 10G), which covers their LAN needs.

I’ll be monitoring throughput, stability, and client connectivity over the next 10 days and will adjust if any issues arise. If their requirements expand in the future, we’ll revisit options like the UDR7 or ExpertWiFi series, but for now this setup is aligned with their actual needs.

UniFi Express 7

This device is Gateway, Controller and Access Point. It doesn't have a Switch. You can use your own switch, but it won't be integrated and controlled by the Network application. If you need VLAN segmentation the switch has to be managed. The cheapest UniFi 2.5GbE switch is USW-Flex-2.5G-5, $49.

Thankyou for that. I have a couple of QNAP unmanaged 10/2.5 Gb switches which will serve until probably at dome point I get a managed switch.

That UniFi 2.5GbE switch is USW-Flex-2.5G-5, seems pretty good value.

regards

They will work just fine for a flat network design with all clients on one subnet. Upgrade when you need VLANs to wired clients. You'll still have VLANs on wireless available for Guest Networks, IoT networks, etc.
