hello folks,
looking for an opinion here. Let's assume the Mesh router connected to the cable modem fails...
Can one then take the Mesh node and make it the main router ?
This will at least offer some functionality . The next step would be to order a one new replacement router ( is that possible ?)
and let the new router become the node.

Is this a practical way to do this or is there another way that I have not considered?
Any help is welcomed.

thanks!!

You would need to reset to factory defaults and setup from scratch to change the node to behave as a router.

If you can buy a single xt8 then you can add it as a node, the difference is that these two devices won't automatically
pair as the devices in the two pack often/sometimes do. Just add the new xt8 as a node as you would do for any
other ASUS router that supports AiMesh (which is quite a few now).
