Asus DDNS has old IP address

For years I've never had a single glitch with Asuscomm.com DDNS. But after updating to 380..68 (from 378.55, with factory reset and John's utility) I've had instances where I cannot connect to the OpenVPN server because (the logfile shows) the DDNS address it's trying to connect to is an outdated one. My ISP-assugned address has changed but it seems Asuscomm.com isn't aware of it.

Rebooting the router does not solve the problem.

I had this happen after updating the router but then it started to work. So I guessed it was a question of time. In the past I've been amazed at how quickly Asuscomm.com became aware tgat my public IP address had changed. But that doesn't seem to be happening now.

I don't believe this is the fault of the Asus DDNS provider: it started when I finally updated the firmware.

Update:
Could be a coincidence, but I replaced the router with my original RT-AC68U - also updated to 380.68 and the same settings - and that instantly connected to the OpenVPN server. So it looks like Asuscomm.com instantly became aware of the new IP address when I connected the old but nominally identical router.

I suppose the question boils down to something like: how does Asuscomm.com get to know that my ISP has just changed my public IP address.

Meanwhile, I'll watch for when the IP address next changes and see if Asuscomm.com gets updated. If not, I'll switch to the original RT-AC68U and see if that updates the DDNS details. That may well narrow down the location of the glitch.

Asuscomm.com DDNS hosts cannot be shared between different routers, as they are tied to the router's MAC.

Many thanks, Merlin. Seems like an excellent security measure. Good to know you can't migrate an Asuscomm.com DDNS address to a different router. Nevertheless, it's an outstanding service and I'd recommend it without reservation.
