But every time I enable a consumer firewall it just doesn't seem to work; and theres not much feedback to figure out why.

Haha, just reading through the thread and that sentiment mirrors the way I feel when substituting "firewall" with "Microsoft OS" which was abandoned here with Windows 3.11.
