Asus Merlin openvpn client connect but no traffic in the tunnel

The openvpn client connect to my server without any problem. There are no traffic in the tunnel. The same client configuration works on Windows, various Linux systems, openwrt, ddwrt and Android 9. When I ssh to the client I can ping the client side of the tunnel but not the server side. From the server side I can not ping the client side. I have tried many versions of the Merlin firmware with the same result. One odd thing happens when you reinstall Asus stock firmware. The vpn tunnel works after reboot until you go to the vpn menus.

Has anyone else had problem with the openvpn client.
