ASUS ROG GT-BE98 rebooting at 02:30 every other morning?

New Around Here
I've had this router for less than a year not had a single problem with it and I wasn't at all aware thee was an issue until I looked at the logs on my phone app and saw Reboot at 02:25 and I thought nothing of it until this morning at 02:25 it rebooted whilst I was playing Starfield and I immediately checked through the router logs and couldn't find any cause for the reboot.

There is no schedual reboot, no auto firmware update enabled there is no reason why at that precise time it is rebooting so I did a little digging and it seams that I'm not alone as other users have reported random reboots at off times mainly early hours of the morning and looking back through the logs it seams to have started in the last quarter of 2025 if my memory serves me correctly didn't we have a firmware update in Oct or Nov of 2025? Is this related to a firmware bug?

I could not find any attacks on the router to cause a reboot. So I am a little flummoxed as to why all of a sudden at 02:25 it is rebooting I could only see 5 entries in my phone where it has logged. But checking it's been ongoing since Oct/Nov of 2025. I even went as far as resetting the router back to factory settings which hasn't been reset since it was first installed 8 months ago and it is still rebooting at 02:25 and I have no answers.

Anyone else having similar issues?

When you say it's "rebooting" do you mean that you see it shutting down in the log and then starting up again? Or do you mean that the log entries suddenly stop (like the power was removed) and then it starts back up again?

RESOLVED…

I found the cause of the reboot. This might have been router interface lag or latency, which does happen now and then with all internal interfaces. It said the router firmware auto-update was disabled, and when I went back in again, it said it was enabled. Yeah, I was flummoxed by this one as well because it definitely said it was disabled, when it is disabled it is turned off and there is no time stamp which indicated that it was disabled.

When auto-update is enabled, it shows up with the time stamp of the auto-update. In my case, it said 02:37, which is why it was rebooting every morning. I wasn't aware that this was set as the default because I certainly didn't enable auto-update firmware update nor did I enter the time to update every morning. Now I discovered what was causing the reboot; it's resolved.

Yep it was fully shutting down and rebooting… I've found the cause now please read my reply to my post.

Unlikely. Firmware auto-upgrade option enabled doesn't cause reboots. Your issue is somewhere else. You most likely have a log record for new firmware check after the router rebooted.

Agreed it shouldn’t; however, auto-update firmware can cause the router to reboot if the router is checking for an update and pulling down a download. Then it will reboot. I checked the logs this morning, and there was no reboot this morning. Nothing at all… I will continue to monitor this for a week and see what happens.

No. Auto-upgrade will check for new firmware daily, download the new firmware when it becomes available, upgrade the firmware and then reboot. Your daily reboots at specific time may be related to this process only if the router for whatever reason is failing auto-upgrade. Check if your firmware is the latest released. If not - download the file from ASUS Support and try manual firmware upgrade.
