ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX6000 dual-band WiFi 6 router - Clients run fine until Android TV box joins the network

New Around Here
Hello guys,

This is my first post here so I’m hoping for some help concerning the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX6000 dual-band WiFi 6 router I just purchased a week ago from Best Buy (will have to return soon if I can't get this router working properly). I've attached a PDF describing the issue along with setting screenshots. After preparing my post within Word, I later realized posting the content here would not format correctly and didn't include the screenshots. Hence, the attached PDF.

Thanks for any insight you may have concerning the issue I'm having.

So from what you've said this appears to be a problem with the StreaMaster devices as you have tried three different routers from two different manufacturers with the same result.

Can you provide a link to information on these StreaMaster devices as I'm not familiar with them.

If you could post the contents of System Log - General Log that might be helpful.

Hi Colin. Thank you for willing to help. I've attached the System Log which includes today. But please concentrate on the Aug 18, 2025 log, since that is the last time I had the router running when allowing an Android TV box to join the network, resulting in the issue I'm experiencing.

Below is some info concerning the StreaMaster Android 9 TV boxes:

Below is a link which sells different StreaMaster models. We didn't purchase our boxes from there though, but bought them from a distributor instead.

And below is some basic info. I found online.

Is it possible you've previously set a static ip or dhcp server on one of your boxes?

I can't check the streaming box now, because I'm using the ASUS ROG Rapture router at the moment (connected to work via the attached Cisco Meraki AP). But I did check the IP settings on both StreaMaster boxes yesterday. The IP setting does offer a Static selection, but mine are set to DHCP, not Static.

@ColinTaylor Hey Colin, I just realized the system log I attached doesn't contain Aug 17 (Sunday) which is the last time I let the streaming boxes join the network, even though one of the streaming boxes was still running into Aug 18 (Monday). So the log for Aug 17 may have shown more useful info. since that's when the issue would have begun. If need be, I can let one of the streaming boxes join the network again today (Tuesday) after I finish working at 4:30pm EST (USA). I can then post an updated system log.

Thanks. I wasn't seeing anything obviously wrong in your current log file.

I think @Ripshod and myself are thinking along the same lines - that your StreaMaster boxes are hijacking your client's DNS requests, possibly because they're running their own DHCP server. Whether that's a possible scenario is hard to know without seeing a manual for the specific boxes you're using. That would also explain why your Meraki client is unaffected as I assume this is providing an isolated corporate VPN connection.

In the absence of any other ideas I suggest you check what LAN IP address range your Nighthawk X6S was using and use the same range on the Asus (LAN - LAN IP). The Asus is currently using 192.168.50.1/255.255.255.0. I suspect your Nighthawk was using something like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1?

P.S. Is this router behind another router? It appears so because your WAN IP address is 192.168.100.47. Not that that's a problem, just curious.

Hey Colin & Ripshod,

I was going to embed some screenshots within this response, but the forum allows only 5 to be embedded. So I attached a PDF instead along with the newest log I mentioned in the PDF. When viewing the syslog (1).txt log file you can begin on 8/19 around 8:15pm.

Thanks for your continued help.

Scott

Keep in mind that there are a lot of Shenzen Android based TV boxes that are pre-loaded with Malware...

Another item is that some will run their own DHCP/DNS server for point-to-point lookups...

This is true. I run Bitdefender Antivirus on our boxes from time to time to keep things clean. I discovered last week that even the Nvidia Shield Pro has an ongoing networking issue if running it via Wifi. The Amazon reviewer of the Nvidia described it fairly well in the attached screenshot.

Do you have any advice on how to go about confirming whether or not my boxes might be running their own DHCP/DNS server? Rogue or not?
