ASUS router app and Web Access from WAN

I noticed that as soon as I disabled Web Access from WAN my ASUS router app on my iPhone would not connect over the LTE network. Is that the only way it will work when outside of my local network?
 
Yes. That's how it works. :)

The (much) better option is to use a VPN to connect to your router and/or home network instead.
