ASUS RT-AC3200 Guest Network Disappears

marcus007

New Around Here
I installed this router a few weeks back in my small business. I have a band for all of our company devices which has been rock solid. I also created a guest network which works beautifully.

My clients join it with the SSID and pre-shared key and use it easily. I'll visibly see it as an available network through my wireless devices.

Suddenly, with no rhyme or reason, the guest network will disappear. When I walk into the shop, I'll find that I don't see it visible when I search for WiFi networks. When I login to the administrative interface, I've had 2 scenarios happen. One time I found it enabled. I disabled it and re-enabled it and it was working again. Another time I found it disabled and when I re-enabled it, it began working again. Now, it's disappeared again and I'm not sure why it's so unstable.

Thx in advance for your thoughts.

What firmware are you running? Have you ever performed a minimal and manual reset to factory defaults on your router?

Are you using Auto channels? Or do you have channels selected manually?

What devices have this issue? Handhelds? Laptops? Other?

Is the ssid hidden? Are there 'illegal' characters in the passphrase or ssid name?

Have you ever reset (i.e. 'forgotten') the password on each device and re-associated the device with the router again? (Particularly important if you had the same password on the previous (or any other) router that the device(s) still connects to).

Firmware: I updated the device to the latest firmware from ASUS using the admin console as of 2 weeks ago, 4/5/2016. I'm not at the shop right now so I can't tell you version #.

Reset: Never did factory defaults. What do you mean by minimal and manual?

Auto Channels: I believe so, I didn't modify this.

All devices have issues: Desktop (win10, Chrome Desktop), Various handhelds (iphone's, itouch, Android) --- we're a retail store on a main street in a downtown serving the public. No one sees the network when it disappears.

SSID: Visible.

SSID: kennedys.guests

Reset/Device: Yes. Makes no difference. Network is still not present. To a new device either, it's not present. When it goes away, it's gone.

'Latest firmware from Asus' is too vague. Please provide the actual firmware version when you can.

Re; reset. Please see the link I included in my first reply.

Do not use Auto channels. Pick one as per the same link above.

Seems like something (industrial motor?) comes on and interferes greatly with the guest network? Does the main network not drop out?

What band is this happening on?

Will grab firmware version tonight.

Printed off info on setup, will look into it.

I'll review channels tonight when I'm at store.

I'm not sure what is around that would mess up my 2.4Ghz channel. The main network on 5Ghz is very stable. There isn't any major mechanical type stuff in town. I honestly have no idea what it could be.

Should I create the guest network on the 5ghz band as well?

If your guest devices all have 5GHz WiFi capable hardware on them, yes. ;)

Did not do all the steps, store was open when I was there. Can't take the network out in the middle of business. I did setup the guest wifi to include a 5Ghz band. Didn't change any other settings for now. Going to wait and see what happens if the 5Ghz band stays visible.
