I recently got Gigabit internet to my home. If I use Cat6 directly to my 2014 Macbook Retina I see speeds of about 600 Mbps. When using wireless or connecting hardwired through the Asus RT-AC66U router I am seeing 160Mbps-200Mbps consistently.

I reset the router to factor defaults, played around with various firmware versions, but nothing seems to resolve the issue.

Any suggestions?

make sure HW acceleration is on ;)

this is only possible on Asus-WRT or Merlin WRT

i believe the main features that disable this are QOS and IP traffic monitoring, but there could be some other things that disable it aswell.

good luck

What are the specs of the WiFi adapter on apple?
Are you connected on 2.4 or 5ghz band?

Router settings for each band ??

Actual speed over WiFi will be lower then lan speeds even if your WiFi connection is higher then lan/wired.

Math for WiFi;
Link speed /2 =transfer speed. Give or take 15%.

I use 5ghz only. I agree, router speeds will be slower than hardwired but not his much slower.

Not using Merlin, but I can if you think that will resolve some of my issues. QOS is disabled, IP traffic monitoring is disabled. Wireless log below:

I went ahead and upgraded firmware to Merlin RT-AC66U_3.0.0.4_374.43_0.trx

I should also note, my Mac is showing I am getting very good connection speeds to the router.

One thing I did was put mine at 120 mW. Doing 200 mW was degrading performance and not yielding anything useful for me.

This is my speed at present (this is using an EA-N66R as the adapter and about 30 feet away direct line of sight).

Downstairs to the other side of the house its anywhere from 150-200 mbit.

I have changed it as suggested. Still same results. I am very frustrated.

I am now seeing random issues where my router will reboot for no reason. I disabled hardware acceleration as I read this might be the cause of the problem but now I see speeds are even slower than before.
