Asus RT-AC66U Local DNS

Hello,

Am I correct in thinking if I wanted to have local DNS resolution that I would need to have merlin firmware installed?

For instance if I wanted to redirect a domain to an internal IP...

domain.com 192.168.1.10

And to have local hostname resolution.

name.my.local 192.168.1.11

Thanks
Sam

Not a DNS approach, but you could have each PC/handheld that might need redirecting put that symbolic host LAN IP address in its "hosts" file. Windows and others first look in this file before doing a DNS lookup.

Perhaps too, if there are many PCs/handhelds that would need this host file, you could put the host file on a LAN shared folder (SMB). That's a text file.
On win 7, it's here: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

These are alternatives.
