ASUS RT-AC68U 5ghz range

Hi,
got myself a new asus rt-ac68u and i am very happy with the overall performance . I am running the merlins .40 alpha 4 firmware as the beta3 caused stability issues. I also bought a new macbook pro retina computer which supports ac standards. i am sitting 15 ft from the router in another room and the transmit rate is only around 100 . When i am in the same room with the router however its much more than that (600-750). 15 ft should not make that much of difference. I need some assistance on how to boost it if possible. I am using default values for the wifi settings.

With 5 GHz and 11ac, 15 feet can make a big difference. All depends on what obstacles that 15 feet adds. Concrete / stone/ block walls will kill 5 GHz signals very quickly.

I had the same problem and figured out that foil backed insulation will completely kill the 5Ghz signal!
