Anyone know why the 86U has gotten expensive all of a sudden? Is it being discontinued and being replaced by something new? If yes, what is the replacement, and when will it be available?

Not likely... it's a current model in the product pipeline.

Reseller surge pricing perhaps - the 86U has good stats for a certain segment - esp. those that depend on VPN - it's a rather good performer there.

It's a supply issue, for a while they were very hard to find, so people having any in stock started price gouging.
