ASUS RT-AC87U upload problem

New Around Here
Hello

I just bought the ASUS RT-AC87U for the wifi. My old router is a dlink 655 i think its called.
We use PLEX at home and when we're out. With my old router i could stream no problem at 12mbps. With the new router i cannot.
But when i measure my band i get 60/30mbps. So http is fine. PLEX uses port 32400 and is natted.

Old router; all good
New router; cant stream using plex.

I dont have QoS turned on. I have tried 4 different firmwares including the lastest from merlin firmware to no avail. I have tuned nat acceleration on and off. It makes no difference. My old router did also not have qos turned on.

Let me point out these test have been measured on the same line receive and send. The problem is the router.

Any suggestions?

RT-AC87U - fresh out of box, and it's not meeting your needs...

Return it and find something better perhaps... the RT-AC68 series is a good choice and at a better price point...

Even an ancient router should be capable of 12Mbit. I doubt the router itself is the cause of the problem.

I think there is something else at work here.

Bad cable? Misconfigured LAN device? Is Plex transcoding or direct streaming?

Nothing of this changes when i switch the router aroud.

Plex is transcoding, and the device at the other end is set to 12 mbps. This works flawlessly on the LAN, but not WAN. Both LAN and WAN works with old router. Same cables, same devices. Nothing changes except the router.

I would do this. But i tested the router in all the ways i could think of then i tossed the box. So i cant return it except for repair. But this really sounds like a firmware thing to me.

Any ideas?

Factory-reset, using a proper 30-30-30 method (google it), then before re-configuring anything, load the latest 87U Merlin firmware, do another 30-30-30 reset, then clear NVRAM, then re-configure.

Should fix your issues.

Not directly, and I neglected to see you've already got Merlin running, so I'm willing to be it's a config issue with your port forwarding and/or firewall on the router. Tough to troubleshoot from this end.

er. Tough to troubleshoot from this end.

Not sure how one can open a port wrong. If its not open i cant see the server.
