Asus RT-AC88U can't get WAN address

New Around Here
Hi,

This is my first post so hi everyone.

Yesterday I bought this router to upgrade my old TP-Link Archer C7, I connected it to the WAN interface and I went to put the same connection parameters that work with the Archer C7, but I cannot get IP address, I changed back to the Archer C7 and it works automatically getting the IP address.

I have to say I'm connecting the router directly to the ONT device.

My internet provider gave me a user password in the form of user: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:[email protected]
pass: xxx

With these data I tried with the PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP using the user/pass with no success. Even if I set the auth mode in dynamic --> no success.

If I copy the WAN ip address, gateway, dns, etc from the Archer C7 and I put them on the Asus setting the connection parameters to static IP, it works, but that would work until my ISP change my IP address.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

After two days changing parameters and trying different things (different versions of firmware, but I couldn't install dd-wrt) I'm going to send back the router due to its incompatibility with my ISP.

I would change to a Netgear router as routers Asus share the firmware.

Regards.

That may be a mac restriction on ISP side.
Try to clone the mac address from TP-Link to Asus.

It is highly unlikely to be "incompatible".

I did it but no success, I have copied the same configuration the same parameters from TP-Link router. And worst is that if I set the WAN ip manually (WAN ip that comes from TP-Link router) I can get internet access.

Regards.

I've checked the values of ip, dns, mask, etc and correspond with these of Archer C7. But I cannot access websites.

Ping to www.google.com --> no success.
Ping to 8.8.8.8 --> network not reachable.
