Hi I have problem with browsing internet when connected with VPN thru my Router. I have put all the information on the PPTP client.. when I activate it, It works for couple of minutes and then it stops working. when I was in stock Asus WRT firmware I used to get "The WAN IP is not the external IP. External IP-based services will not work" message and I changed to Merlin I dont get any message but I cant browse internet. When I go to Network map the internet status says connected and I get the wan IP as soon as I deactivate the PPTP VPN it starts working. Even my gigaset c610ip dect voip cant register when VPN is activated it fails as soon as I activate it. what could be the problem.. is it not routing properly? or are the ips conflicting?

in advanced settings; is "Connect to DNS Server automatically" configured to "Yes"?

does your router get the WAN IP address o another router in front of Asus? if there is another router/modem which gets WAN IP configure your routers IP address as DMZ on that router/modem.

Did you mean on wan tab on advance setting? Then the answer is yes its configured to yes no i dont have any other router or modem before ac88u my connection is fiber so it from the outlet it comes direct to the router(ac88u). Also I forgot to mention the Vpn is free service that the ISP provides us. Generally its just plug and play if you dont use vpn we dont use username and password wan gets ip automatically dont have to configure any thing. I am wondering if i have to change to pptp instead of automatic ip and get the wan ip to automatically

Yup just tried it... Looks like i was right after all its working now... Maybe pptp client works with vpn thats not from your isp... dunno..
