I installed it and reset my router to factory, working great!

Running it for 6 hours now, no factory reset, no issues, but honestly no issues with it since i bought it in October. I am a very basic user, latops/pc's and streaming devices.

Update performed 1 hour ago, nothing abnormal so far — stable for the moment.
I have OpenVPN, WireGuard, and MLO enabled, a guest network isolated, with 28 devices permanently connected.
We'll see over time, although I didn’t have any issues with the previous version either.

If you've been having a lot of issues especially after fiddling with lots of settings, the general advice is yes. Take screenshots of all your settings (the ones you input details in to or toggle on off etc.).

If not then just update it without a hard reset and see how you get on. Hard resets are not mandatory for every FW update unless Asus or Merlin says so, unless you’re going from Stock to Merlin or vice versa, or changing branch e.g. 3004 to 3006; or having issues you cannot fix.

You ‘can’ but the question should probably be “should I”. it’s is strongly discouraged because IF the issues you were experiencing were down to settings or a borked setup, you will just reintroduce them.

Thanks for the reply. I'm running 38980 and I don't have any problem except that all devices on a particular wifi guest network also listed in another wifi guest network as clients. I'll give it a try without a hard reset as there are lots of settings that I hate to have to reenter manually. Thanks again!

If you factory reset then restore the settings, you essentially did "nothing". A factory reset is to prevent deprecated settings or new settings from conflicting.

After the upgrade, did anyone else have the Automatic Firmware Upgrade switch turn on?

I had mine set to off prior to the upgrade, but noticed it was switched on post upgrade.
I have now switched it off again.

Otherwise, I haven't noticed any other issues.

Installed the new BE92U firmware and wanted to leave a quick impression.

Overall stability does seem better than before. General behavior feels a bit more solid, and some of the random instability appears to have improved.

However, the problem is that AiMesh client binding still does not work properly at all.
Even when a client is bound to a specific node, it often does not stay there, and the binding behavior is not being enforced in any reliable way. In real use, the client bind feature is still hard to trust.

Another issue I noticed is that some wired devices are incorrectly shown as being connected to the 6 GHz network in the client list.
That is obviously wrong and makes the client list less trustworthy for actual troubleshooting and network management.

So yes, overall stability seems improved, but some core mesh/client reporting functions are still clearly broken.
ASUS really needs to fix both the client binding behavior and the incorrect client list reporting.

Logged into my router's desktop app Sunday morning and discovered the new firmware available only after I clicked the "Check" button. I have had the Automatic Firmware Upgrade switch turned on ever since installing the router last fall so I assume this latest upgrade would have installed at night if I had not chosen to manually install which is what I did. I was prompted to reboot (not reset) after downloading the update so I powered it down and back up and all appears normal with the new version 39061 installed.

For my purposes this router had been working almost flawlessly since firmware version 38980 installed months ago and fixed the problems caused by the firmware that came before it. I say "almost flawlessly" because on two occasions I experienced loss of internet connectivity on all bands and during that outage the LED light for internet remained lit as if normal. Was very confusing and both times I had to resort to hard-booting (powering down & back up) to regain internet connection. That only happened twice.

My next door neighbor bought the same router based on my recommendation and we installed it less than a month ago. Yesterday I made her aware of the firmware upgrade available and she also installed it manually rather that waiting for the automatic install. The only difference she experienced during the upgrade was she was not prompted to reboot which seemed strange. After the upgrade we talked about the fact she was not prompted, and she chose to reboot anyway and all is well.

Long story short is we are happy with the performance of our RT-BE92U routers and we run them basically stock without tweaking hardly any settings. So far so good with this latest firmware upgrade.
