ASUS RT-N56U Port Fowarding

Sduya

New Around Here
Greetings. So I think my question here is such that its too simple to find an answer to by searching around.

I am trying to set up port forwarding on a school network (for XBOX Live) because it constantly has disconnects. We use it mostly for streaming and coms with family. I bought the Asus router in hopes that it would provide a more stable connection over our old one.

In any case this is the first time attempting forwarding and have figured out the basics of obtaining a static IP, entering in port numbers into the list and assigning the device ip. I entered them in and hit apply. I don't think its working and have no clue yet but want to make sure I have the following items correct as I thought they were not required for forwarding and were optional. the following are setting options:

1). Enable Port Forwarding? (this is obviously yes. correct?)
2). Famous Server List <-- what is this for? is it required?
3). Famous Game list <-- what is this for? is it required?
4).FTP server Port <-- " " " " " "?
5). Bandwidth Status? manual uplink speed: recommendations?

I'll be appreciative of any suggestions. Thank you.

Do you have UPnP enabled? Accroding to MS, that should be all that is needed to get an open NAT on an XBOX360. At least from a router that implements it properly.

On my Rt-N56U, I was getting a moderate NAT on my 360s. I tried port forwarding, but that is only a solution for one 360 and I have three of them. I read the UPnP info on the MS Xbox website. After I turned on UPnP I was able to get an open NAT from all three of my 360s. With port forwarding you can only use those ports with one box.

I'm also using the custom firmware so I don't know first hand if it works with the official Asus firmware. but it certainly works properly with the custom firmware.
