Asus RT-N56U project

New Around Here
Hi all

I am using the ASUS RT-N56U router with the firmware of 3.4.3.6.-68

I have 3 IPcams that I am using the router & usb port to save the pics.

#1 I don't want the router on the internet (security) so is there a way in the web menu
to set the time? if not... maybe I could set a quick bridge to a different router to get
the NTP packet (connect every 5 or so hrs). The IPcams can get the embedded time
stamps from the router.

#2 I would like to chrontab the pics (every hr or so make a tarball of the pics) what would
be the best way to do that.

as this project continues I am sure more ideas will hit... maybe this will help other people.

Thanks in advance

William

You could manually set the clock using the "date" command over telnet. Afterward, check it from time to time to see if the clock has any drift, requiring you to adjust it periodically.

Another thing worth trying is to have an ntpd server running on a computer at home, and have the router sync with that LAN server. Just not sure if the ntp client built in the FW can access a server from the LAN side.
