ASUS RT-N66U 5 GHz channel not picked up by dual band adapter

... another thread by a nube mainly because ASUS support in my country couldn't fix this one either. I rigged up my router to ASUS firmware _112 and just couldn't pick up 5 GHz band on Belkin dual band and Samsung HT dualband adapters. Apparently it picked up just fine on an ASUS adapter. The problem lies with the channel which is set to 'auto'. Just switch to any numerical value such as 36 or 48, refresh available networks on the receiving adapters and the 5 GHz band becomes visible. The 'auto' setting on 2.4 GHz doesn't have this problem. In Tomato Toastman there is no problem either....

Make sure channel bandwidth is set to auto rather than 20 or 40 MHz fixed on both the adaptors and on the router...
