Asus RT-N66u -and TP link modem --cannnot get to router GUI settings

richycraigs

New Around Here
Hello All,

Just a quick question.
I have just purchased and setup the Asus RT-N66u router.
Pretty sweet overall...

One issue I am having is that when I go to: 192.168.1.1 -to access the
asus routers settings GUI, I end up in the settings page for the attached
modem which is a TP link TD-8816.....?

How do I get to the settings page of the Asus RT-N66u without having to
use to startup CD everytime?

Thanks in Advance,
RichyCraigs.

Also experiencing this problem, plus another...

Hello everyone! I'm a new user, and it seemed most appropriate to resurrect this old thread. I'm fairly competent with computers and networks (take primary day-to-day care of our MS Exchange-based server environment at work), though not very experienced with modems/routers.

I just received the RT-N66u at my 4200 sq. ft. 2-level house to replace the router activities of my ActionTec Wireless-N DSL modem/router. So, my setup goes phone line>ActionTec DSL Wireless-N modem (wireless routing disabled)>Asus RT-N66U>LAN computer + wireless router.

I'm having a few issues.

1) It seems likely that my computer and the new Asus router have the same IP address on the same subnet. What I 'see' is that I cannot get to my Asus Router's GUI without first setting my computer's IP address to 192.168.1.2 (as opposed to choosing IPv4 automatically). I can get to my ActionTec modem at 192.168.0.1 fine. I'm not exactly sure what I should do to address this situation.

2) My older Lenovo T60 laptop cannot connect with the new Asus router, though it could without difficulty to the ActionTec Wirless-N (though had borderline throughput in my lower level). My newer Lenovo can connect to both 2.4ghz and 5ghz on the new Asus without problems. My old laptop connects to a,b,g but not n. I thought the N66-U supported a,b,g. Ideas?

I'm glad to have joined this site, appreciate your advice, and hope to become an active contributor to the site.

try releasing and renewing all on the comp that cannot connect . The Asus connects to A B G N so older laptop should connect .
The modem should be in bridge mode , no ?

1) Make sure you don't have a DHCP server running on the Actiontek. It might be handing out IPs in the 192.168.0.0/24 network. The RT-N66U should be the only DHCP server running on your network.

2) If your T60 is like my old one, it doesn't support N. Make sure you didn't set your router to "N-only" on the 2.4 GHz band.
