ASUS RT-N66U client ftp timeout problem

KenOp

I am encountering a persistent and consistent issue when attempting to upload a file via ftp from my computer to a server over the internet.

Whenever the file transfer has been going on for exactly one hour, the connection is reset. I have been assured that the server has no such timeout value; that the problem must be on the client side.

I'm using FileZilla, but they say (and I believe) there is no such timeout value in their client software.

I've been told the problem is probably my router, an ASUS RT-N66U. It's running older firmware (3.0.0.4.276), but I've had no reason to update it as everything else (including the wireless connections) has been fine. My impression is that later versions have had some issues, so unless I know the problem would be fixed by an upgrade, I'm too timid to try.

Has anyone ever heard of such an issue: an ftp timeout, closing the connection, after precisely one hour?

Thanks,

Ken

Thanks for the reply. I don't know why I never seem to get email notifications of replies. :(

Unfortunately I didn't find anything useful in the link. This is a rather unusual situation in that it works fine for exactly 1 hour before disconnecting. So normal ftp problem solving doesn't help.

As for the error I'm getting, it's just a generic error that the ftp client (FileZilla) gives when the connection is lost. So no help there, either.

I'm semi-convinced that the problem does lie with the router, but I was hoping perhaps someone had heard of such a problem.

You have to subscribe to the thread and choose how you want to be notified.

It is below "Reply to Thread" in "Additional Options".

I don't think you see it if using quick reply.

You can also change this in User CP > Setting and Options > Edit Options

I was subscribed to this thread; that wasn't the problem.

The problem was even more obvious -- wrong email address! :o

Wish I could solve my ftp problem as easily. :)
