ASUS RT-N66U intermittent per device

New Around Here
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone else has been having the following issues:

The wifi connection will drop out on a device (phone) and page won't load, but another device right next to it (laptop) continues fine, even the exact same page. Then on the first device if I toggle the wifi off then on, boom works again fine. This is regardless of whether devices are next to each other and happens on all devices. Connection seems to drop out, but if I disable wifi, then enable, boom page loads quickly as expected. Happens several times per day.

I've called Asus support and they had me fiddle with the 2.4 and 5 GHz settings, but behaviour is the same before and after fiddling.

This is with ASUS firmware 3.0.0.4.376_1071 which itself claims to be up to date. I haven't tried any custom firmwares because I want to make sure this isn't a hardware issue first in case I have to RMA it.

Should I try custom firmwares? Anyone else see anything like this?

Thanks a lot

I would suggest you flash RMerlin 376.45 firmware (fixes a lot of issues), reset to defaults to be sure, configure the router manually, reboot a couple of times waiting 5-10 minutes in between and use a new ssid on both bands.

I would also unplug your isp modem for at least 10 minutes before applying power to it again.

If the issues continue; it's hardware.

First thing you can try is to Delete/Forget the network entry on the Phone and set it up again. If you moved from a previous router to RT-N66u than it could have some bad settings kicking around.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, try releasing the IP address on the phone and renewing it as it could point to a DHCP issue.

With my iPhone each time it would wake up it would query for a DHCP address every time filling up the system logs. In the end I just configured a static IP address on the phone.

What firmware was on it before you upgraded and did you have these issues prior to upgrading?

I have had these kinds of issues with all the SDK6 driver builds and went to a SDK5 build.

Now all issues are gone.

Specifically using merlin 3.0.0.4.374.35_4-sdk5
