Asus Rt-N66u Issue.

Rtomo

New Around Here
I'm having a minor problem with my Asus Rt-n66u router as stated in the title. Basically whats happening is while playing league of legends under normal circumstances I would have a steady ping right around 93-95ms. What has started happening recently is one match i'll have 93ms then out of the blue for no apparent reason it will jump up to 120ms the next. Then will randomly switch between 93 and 120 each game I play. The ping does not fluctuate during the game at all it's either a solid 93 or 120.

This is making it difficult for me to play because I can feel the difference between the two different ping times. Although my ping does go back down if I restart LoL for a few minutes after each match. I've had this router for roughly 8-12 months and this has just started to do this recently. I know its not a problem with the modem, the game, or cable lines because when i wire directly into the modem it no longer happens.

I've updated the firmware to the most recent release, reset the router back to factory default, switched out the Ethernet cable, and turned the router off for an hour or more. None of which seem to have any effect. Also I am not running any Qos settings or anything like that. Everything is on default settings aside from the security password. My pc is 100% clean i reformatted it yesterday thinking that I may have spyware or a virus. I am wired directly into the router and this happens whether or not the wifi is enabled.

When I run speedtest/pingtest everything seems normal. I am out of ideas to try and fix this. If anyone has any ideas please feel free to share.

Pings will vary quite a bit normally. Due to your ISP, the internet routing, your wifi competing for airtime, etc. Don't use wifi if you want best case.

I am wired into the router. This happens regardless if I have the wifi enabled or not. It doesn't happen when i take the router out of the equation tho and just use the modem.

I pinged my router while I experienced the sudden jump in ping while gaming and here is the results I got.

Pinging 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=22ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64

Ping statistics for 192.168.1.1:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 22ms, Average = 5ms

As you can see the first attempt gave me a time of 22ms, which is most likely why the ping goes from 93ms to 122ms in league. As I said in my original post I cant figure out why its suddenly doing this. I am wired into the router while playing/during the ping test. I recently tried different versions of firmware which also had no effect on it. I am currently using merlin which has a performance tab that shows temperatures.

Heres what it shows:

Legend: 2.4 GHz - 5 GHz
Current Temperatures:122 °F - 129 °F

Could it be a problem with my router overheating?
