I've been having problems getting my new router to work without totally losing my LAN connection--and therefore my Internet access. (After booting up the following morning I noticed it was not working--it was working fine before this.) So I am attempting to go back to the beginning and reinstall the router again.
Before it all went wonky, I was able to get my little Roku 3 wirelessly up and running and got to enjoy that for a few hours.
I have an ARRIS cable modem from my cable provider with a static IP. I noticed in the manual on page 9, under 'Before you proceed,' one of the things it says to do is "release your computer's outmoded IP address."
Being a newbie at this whole router thing
I was wondering if that is a good idea to do this? Reading about it, it makes sense. Sounds simple to do via command line (which I am familiar with).
If I should do this, should I also renew after releasing? Or just release?
Thanks in advance for your help!
