ASUS RT-N66U & timesync/internetconnection ?

Hi,

I bought a new RT-N66U, flashed the firmware to 3.0.0.4.376_1071; the N66U should work as wireless-router in my LAN (no connection to WAN!), the gateway to the internet is realized with a firewall-pc connected to the LAN (with a fix IP 192.168.0.xxx).

Problem: the N66U does not find the internet connection on the LAN (it seems to look only on WAN) and because of that the time sync to a ntp-server does not work.

Any hint for a solution?

The quick solution: conect the WAN port of the router to your LAN.
The default router IP range is 192.168.1.xxx, so this should work right away.
By this the wired LAN is isolated from the wireless part due to the router NAT function.

The second option is to configure the router as Access Point:
Advanced Settings>Administration>Operation Mode
Select: Access Point(AP) mode, follow the guidelines on that page.
By this your wired and wireless devices are on the same LAN.

Hi,

thanks, wouterv. I tried the 2nd option and switched to mode 'router as Access Point' ... now the RT-N66U does find the ntp-server and was able to set the time .

First I had problems with connectiong wireless devices - in mode 'Access Point' the DHCP-server is not active, so manually connections did work, automatic connections not. So I activated the DHCP-server in my firewall-pc - now the wireless connection does work with 'automatic IP'.

At the moment I do not see further problems. Thanks !
