Just an FYI, my AsusMerlin Wireguard would not connect yesterday and I noticed that my DDNS had lost contact to server. At the time there was no outage reported. I ended up making an account with No-Ip and setup a key and A record. Let's encrypt dropped my cert in seconds after entering the data. Just uninstalled and reinstalled Wireguard to pickup the new DDNS. Should have posted yesterday however I didn't confirm the outage until I pulled half my hair out.

Known issue. Asus DDNS has been unreliable for years.

Hi, can you kindly post your DDNS screenshot with NO-IP? Thanks.

The instructions show old firmware, but no much changes in DDNS setup:

No-IP Free, must update once a month via email, I have a category filter in outlook that codes the email from no-ip in RED.

Yeah I noticed that too, fortunately my trusty @Tailmon install was immediately available to cover the down time.

TBH, I don’t find it happens very often, once every 6 months maybe. I use VPN a lot so it’s not like I don’t notice it through lack of use.

@jksmurf Mine had been running solid for 5 years w/asuscomm. I'll have to check into the Tailmon. Haven't used that yet, thanks for the pro tip!

I can’t see a signature so I’m not sure what HW or FW you’re running, but just a heads up, it runs on Merlin FW only.

Tailmon is a really neat Addon which sets and manages a Tailscale install, but doesn’t need a DDNS to operate.

You helped me a couple weeks ago with the next to last version of AMTM concerning the auto updates. Back when I was buying this for business from Sophos, I'd drop a grand a year for application blocking and firewall updates. Been running this at home for a long time works excellent!

Well then, good to go. Add Tailmon, set it up.

Maybe also a good time to add a signature to your forum profile with Router HW and FW.

How often your leased IP changes? On my ISPs to the same MAC device it's... never.

My fiber provider doesn't change the IP very often, usually only when I call because someone with a backhoe gets a little wild and they think rebooting my gateway will help :). When asuscomm went down the IP hadn't changed however the DDNS was coded into my VPN and couldn't find its way home.

The No-IP paid service is well worth the few bucks a year that it costs. My ISP can change the router IP address every reboot and it can change, usually dosen't, several times a day as the DNS Lease time is 30 minutes.
