I contacted Asus Support regarding the limitation on the maximum number of concurrent VPN connections using VPN Fusion with the latest 388.x firmware. As expected, it’s a hardware limitation that only affects the AX88U. Here is their reply.
Following up with your query regarding the VPN Fusion. The maximum concurrent connections are dependent on the device. As per the FAQ - https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1033909/ - four are supported by:
GT-AC5300
GT-AX11000
GT-AXE11000
ROG Rapture GT-AC2900
ROG STRIX GS-AX3000
ROG STRIX GS-AX5400
TUF-AX3000
TUF-AX5400
RT-AX88U only supports two. Currently, a hardware limitation, as more optimizations are made we will try to increase the current device limits, unfortunately, cannot confirm if or when more concurrent devices can be raised.
I have to say that I was very impressed with the standard of technical support, both in logging the job and the response.
