BE98 Pro…dead in three weeks

Got a BE98 Pro about three weeks ago to replace a GT-AXE16000 that had begun to have major h/w stability issues. Had the new BE98 Pro up and running as a core router for my mesh network. It was setup behind my AT&T fiber gateway. Also running dual WAN in failover mode. All seemed great…until this morning. BE98 Pro dead. Constant reboots, unable to access UI, no lights other than power and solid red LEDs on top. Tried all the usual…hard resets, WPS button resets…nothing. So logical conclusion is h/w failure. OK…it happens. But I’m curious as to others who may have experienced complete h/w failure with their BE98 Pro units. The one that failed is a v2.0 h/w model. I’m sorta disappointed that a higher-end prosumer router went tango-uniform after three weeks. Usually for me h/w failures more commonly happen as dead out of the box rather than operational failures.

Just trying to see if this is a fluke or a larger h/w reliability issue with these models.

Jeez that’s tough, I’d be pretty pithed at this happening with two devices in succession.

I don’t have such an animal, but you’d have to start wondering, assuming they were both attached to the same wall socket, whether there are power stability issues at the socket i.e. surges, fluctuating or whatever interrupted supply that may have killed off the two routers.

Out of interest, when you started having issues (I appreciate the LEDs were on, so not totally dead), did you try an alternative power supply (and maybe wall socket) to rule that out? Imagine you get a 3rd or replacement unit and that goes the way of the Dodo as well…

Good point on potential power issues. Both the 1600 and the 98 were on conditioned power with substantial battery backup. There are a number of other components likewise attached to the surge protector/battery backup that are doing fine. It’s still possible that something flaky happened to the power and/or power supplies. I’m going to try the power supply from the new 98 on the old one and connect it to a different circuit to see if that makes any difference. We’ll see.

At least on version 1.0 hw, the hard reset instructions didn't quite work. You'd likely want to continue holding the WPS button maybe 30 secs before releasing, (literally). The power light turns off way too quickly on these higher up models...
