Hi, just checking, which is the better router for a gaming router that also runs torrents/openvpn client+policy based routing? i take it ram + cpu power is the most important things here. i currently have an ac68u and it really can die under the load of openvpn.. (ie: my games start having weird latency)

so asus ac88u , or ac5300u or something else altogether?

Are you using OpenVPN for torrents traffic only, for other activities as well

The router with the fastest processor will be better for you.

Or, use a computer to run the torrents instead?

For real high performance you need another brand/type of routers (with Intel x86 CPUs) for your needs: The poor small ARM CPUs will not bring great performance...

But if you can survive with 50/10 MBit VPN and ~20-30 Torrents in parallel (with limited bandwidth) you are good to go with any Asus router starting with AC68U (or above) - as I do with my new AC87U! ;)

Wouldnt a RPi2 be a good torrenting machine?
Same type of ARM CPU (a bit faster as more cores included) - but the newer Linux OS and more RAM could help a bit - but it would not come in the area of an Intel x86 PC or Laptop...

Probably just as cheap to get a x86 laptop, i agree.
